Farrier Marine :: Plans
Multihull plans by Ian Farrier take a year or more each to complete, and this is why there is not a long list of models. They are simply the best and most developed multihull plans available, and come with all details (from 60 to 106 plan sheets depending on model). Extensive Full Size Patterns are included for all frames and many interior panels, plus dxf CAD files are an available option for computer cutting frames and other items.
The plans are the most comprehensive, the designs are fully tested and actually work, plus designer always answers emails or phone calls.
Plan prices are in US dollars with all credit card sales going through Farrier Marine, Inc. (USA), while plans or parts are currently being sent out from New Zealand. Payment can also be made by direct wire deposit to Farrier Marine's New Zealand bank account, and a 5% discount is available for direct payments.
Plans are always sent priority/air mail and, where possible, include the contact details of at least one other nearby builder of a Farrier design. Farrier designs are rather unique boats and we believe other builders can help in many ways. Note that plans have both metric and imperial dimensions, and always include all the latest options available.
Building your own boat during slower times can make a lot of sense, as spare time is being used productively, while building up what can become a significant asset, and one that can be lived on, and moved anywhere.
However, be sure to choose plans carefully as the data supplied is very easy to copy (like computer programs) and once plans have been received the plan fee cannot be refunded.
Note that the plan price is made up from two components, these being the basic cost of the printed matter required (around 3-5% of the plan price), and a separate license to build one boat only from the information supplied. The actual drawings are also an instrument of service only, and always remain the property of Farrier Marine. Should it be desired to build another boat later then a separate license to build a second boat must be purchased.
